4 Common Myths on the Cayman Islands Dispelled

Have you ever considered making all of your dreams come true by purchasing a home or land on a stunning Caribbean island? You could wake up every day with the sounds of waves lapping against pristine white-sand beaches and light breezes against your dancing curtains. Every afternoon, you’d have the perfect weather for walking, exercising, and overall relaxing.

This is a common image that nearly everyone has in their head. Unfortunately, so many people tend to have this vision but instantly throw it away as they don’t take it seriously. They falsely believe that they could never live in the Caribbean for a host of reasons and see it only as a dream and never a potential reality.

However, they fail to successfully conduct research on this because their misconceptions can almost instantly be dissolved if they did. Because, if they were to actually purchase land for sale in the Cayman Islands, for example, they would quickly see it’s extremely possible to live out their dreams of living in the Caribbean after all.

Buying land for sale in the Cayman Islands has gained more and more popularity in recent years-- and for good reason. This attractive archipelago in the Caribbean is one of the most captivating and livable options available. Having said that, let’s look at the most common myths about purchasing land for sale in the Cayman Islands and dispel them once and for all.

4 Common Myths on the Cayman Islands Dispelled

  • Myth #1: You can’t buy / it’s not easy to buy property as a foreigner in the Cayman Islands

This claim could not be farther from the truth! In fact, the Cayman Islands government actually welcomes and invites foreigners to come and purchase land /property on all of the three islands.

They want foreigners to feel so welcomed when purchasing a home/land there that they guarantee those who actually go through with purchasing a legitimate title. There are also several other advantages and incentives that the government supplies foreign buyers to make the decision even more worthwhile:

    • There is only a one-time stamp duty payment on the purchase of a property.
    • No single property ownership restrictions
    • No annual property tax or capital gains tax payments when purchasing a property
  • Wrong again! You can certainly get a mortgage for a land/home purchase within the Cayman Islands. This is actually the route most foreigners take when doing so. You would need to put down a deposit of roughly 30%, but it is a seamless process and has been trailblazed by many foreigners before. If they could do it, so can you.

  • While there will be some differences in the Cayman Islands in comparison to your home country, that doesn’t mean they’re “too” different! There are actually a lot of commonalities between the two that will make your assimilation process quite simple and painless.

English, for one thing, is the first language of the Islands, so you will get by just fine in terms of communication. The Islands also have a plethora of American fast-food restaurants and other such common restaurants available. The food, in summation, won’t be something entirely different, as there are plenty of options there that you know of.

Plus, if you feel your home country is extremely safe and worry that the Cayman Islands aren’t safe, then you need not worry about that: the Islands have an extremely low crime rate across the board!

  • The Cayman Islands offer visitors and citizens alike unparalleled beautiful beaches, but also endless amounts of activities and experiences to indulge in! There is plenty of snorkeling, scuba diving, hiking, parasailing, paddleboarding, and so much more.

Looking for a bustling city? Then head to the Islands’ capital city, George Town, which is located on the biggest and most populous island of the three, Grand Cayman. It has a population of about 40,200, making it the perfect size for excitement in a smaller city.

Or are you looking for more fun things to explore? Try the Bioluminescent Bay at Rum Point on Grand Cayman where the phytoplankton in the water illuminate at night, providing you with a stunning yet mystical and natural show right at the water’s edge. You could even swim with, feed, and pet stingrays at Stingray City.

The other two islands, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, both have places to explore on their own as well. For example, Cayman Brac’s Bluff, a limestone cliff that is 140 feet high. Little Cayman has the Booby Pond Nature Reserve, which has about 20,000 boobies and 350 frigate birds.

Trust us: there is plenty to do and see in the Cayman Islands! You will never get bored.
